73-year-old Albino Barrera and his granddaughter 2-year-old Sofia Barrera were killed Saturday evening in a crash on the 5 Freeway in Anaheim.
The Barrera family was driving home after a family photoshoot when another vehicle collided with the SUV near the 91 Freeway interchange. The person who caused the accident is suspected to have been driving under the influence.
Both grandparents were in the back seat with Sofia while their other grandchild Ishmael Barrera Romero sat at the front. Albino and Sofia were later removed from the SUV and were pronounced dead at the scene while the other three passengers were hospitalized.
The unnamed driver of the SUV that collided with the Barrera family’s vehicle was also hospitalized following the accident.
