Three teenage girls were hospitalized and are now facing criminal charges after allegedly stealing a car and leading police on a pursuit that ended in a crash in Simi Valley over the weekend.
Simi Valley police said the incident began around 2 a.m. Saturday when officers spotted a vehicle driving without headlights near Erringer Road and Cochran Street. A check of the license plate revealed the car had been reported stolen.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped off, leading police on a pursuit through city streets. The chase came to a violent end near First Street and Flower Glen Street when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll off the road.
Inside the wrecked car, police found three teenage girls, ages 13 and 14, who suffered significant injuries. All three were taken to a local trauma center for treatment.
After receiving medical care, the teens, all residents of Simi Valley, were released to hospital staff and their guardians. Police said they are facing charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools.
The case is still under investigation.
