A two-vehicle collision on eastbound Highway 50 near Prairie City Road on Monday afternoon left two people hospitalized and forced the closure of multiple lanes for several hours.
The crash, which occurred shortly before 1 p.m. local time, involved a white pickup truck and a second vehicle. Authorities said one of the vehicles overturned, resulting in major injuries to one occupant and moderate injuries to another.
Emergency crews responded swiftly, with both injured individuals transported to a nearby hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
Three eastbound lanes of Highway 50 were closed during the investigation and cleanup, backing up traffic through the Folsom area. The roadway was fully reopened by late afternoon, CHP said.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.
California Highway Patrol is asking any witnesses to contact the East Sacramento office as they work to determine what led to the incident.
