Two individuals, one of them being Los Angeles sergeant Shiou Deng, were killed following a crash that took place on Moraga Drive on the 405 Freeway in West Los Angeles early Monday morning.
First responders were alerted of the crash at about 2 a.m. where they found a marked LAPD car with major damage and several other equally damaged cars strewn across the road. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed at a later news conference that their 26-year veteran, Sgt. Shiou Deng, was involved in the crash and had died at the hospital. Deng was reportedly fatally struck after exiting his vehicle to assist with a car collision.
Another unnamed person was also hospitalized.
