A family is calling for hate crime charges after a 14-year-old boy was brutally attacked by a group of individuals during a concert in Palmdale over Memorial Day weekend.
The incident occurred at the Palmdale Amphitheater on May 25 during a community concert. Video of the attack, widely circulated on social media, appears to show the teen being punched, kicked, and dragged by a mob.
The victim, identified by his family as Elias Hurtado, suffered multiple injuries including a concussion and facial trauma. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
The teen’s family believes the attack was racially motivated and is urging the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the case as a hate crime.
In a statement, sheriff’s officials confirmed that one juvenile suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not yet determined whether hate crime charges will be pursued.
