A 29-year-old woman was killed Saturday when she was struck by a falling tree branch while hiking along a paved trail in Yosemite National Park.
The victim, identified as Angela Lin, a software engineer for Google, was walking with her boyfriend and friends when branches began falling from nearby trees. One large branch hit her directly, killing her at the scene.
The trail, considered relatively safe and popular among visitors, was briefly closed following the incident.
The National Park Service has released few details, prompting criticism from the victim’s family over a lack of transparency. The incident is under investigation.
