A recall has been issued for certain Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches after it was discovered they may contain peanut butter filling, posing a serious risk to individuals with peanut allergies.
Mondelēz Global LLC, the manufacturer, announced the recall following a labeling error by a supplier. While the outer packaging may correctly label the product as containing peanut butter, the individually wrapped sandwich packs may not indicate the allergen, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a notice.
The mislabeled products could trigger potentially life-threatening allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. So far, no illnesses have been reported.
Consumers with peanut allergies are advised not to consume the affected products and to discard them immediately. Mondelēz has provided contact information for customers seeking a refund or additional guidance.
The recall is ongoing and consumers are encouraged to check the FDA’s website for further updates.
