A 24-year-old woman was seriously injured after being struck by an Amtrak train in Ventura County on Monday afternoon, resulting in the loss of her arm.
The incident occurred around 5:25 p.m. near a railroad overcrossing by Seaward Avenue. According to officials, the woman was carrying a bicycle as she attempted to cross the tracks when it became stuck. While trying to free it, she was hit by a southbound train.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital, taking her severed arm along in the ambulance. She is currently listed in stable condition.
Train services in the area were temporarily affected as authorities investigated the scene. The circumstances surrounding why she attempted to cross during an oncoming train are under review. No other injuries were reported.
