CHULA VISTA, CA (November 7, 2024) – A truck slammed into a Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) trolley in Chula Vista on Tuesday evening, resulting in over a dozen injuries.
According to MTS spokesperson Mark Olson, the truck broadsided the northbound trolley car at the intersection of L Street and Industrial Boulevard around 4:30 p.m.
Many of the injured were treated at the scene by the Chula Vista Fire Department, while several others were transported to local hospitals. Three people, including the truck driver, were reported to have sustained “major trauma” from the crash.
The collision has prompted interruptions to Blue Line trolley service, with no service between the H Street and Iris Avenue Transit Center stations. MTS is currently providing bus shuttles for impacted riders and advising them to use Route 932 for service between the affected stations. Delays on the Blue Line are expected to continue until the situation is resolved.
MTS is conducting an investigation into the Chula Vista trolley crash and will provide further details once the inquiry is complete.
