FRESNO, CA (October 22, 2024) – Alma Diaz, a secretary at Jefferson Elementary in the Kings Canyon Unified School District, tragically lost her life last Wednesday in a crash while on her way to pick up her six-year-old daughter.
The incident happened when a pickup truck attempting to overtake another vehicle collided with her car at the intersection of Hills Valley Road and Parlier Avenue, south of Orange Cove.
In a poignant tribute, over 100 community members gathered for a vigil at the crash site this past Sunday, releasing balloons in Diaz’s favorite color, green, to honor her memory. Diaz, who had dedicated 13 years to the school district, is remembered for her kind and cheerful spirit which, according to a district statement, “will be remembered by students, staff, and families for many years to come.”
To support Diaz’s family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe page has been established. Those wishing to contribute can find the page online, helping the family cope with unexpected funeral expenses and the care of her daughter.
