RIVERSIDE, CA – A collision between a pickup truck and a sedan on northbound Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore Sunday evening left one person dead and two others injured, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash reportedly happened just before 9:30 p.m. near Central Avenue during heavy rainfall.
A 54-year-old Hayward woman driving a 2012 Toyota Scion TC lost control on the wet roadway, causing her car to spin out. A 44-year-old Riverside man driving a white Ford F-150 behind her was unable to stop in time, striking the sedan. Both vehicles veered off the road, according to witnesses.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics pronounced the Toyota’s passenger, a 52-year-old Lake Elsinore man, dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries, while a passenger in the pickup truck was hospitalized with moderate injuries. The pickup driver was unharmed.
The CHP is investigating the deadly crash in Lake Elsinore, which underscores the dangers of driving in adverse weather conditions. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact authorities.
