CHULA VISTA, CA (November 20, 2024) – A 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Tuesday morning after crashing into Caltrans subcontractors working on an off-ramp in Chollas View, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. as workers laid concrete along the off-ramp from northbound Interstate 805 to Market Street.
Authorities said the woman’s gold Ford SUV veered off the roadway, striking three workers before crashing into a trailer parked on the shoulder. Video footage from the DUI crash in Chollas View showed the vehicle with heavy front-end damage and paramedics treating injured workers. One worker appeared to have a leg injury requiring a splint.
The injured subcontractors were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Their current conditions have not been disclosed. The workers were part of an ADA-compliance construction project subcontracted by Caltrans.
The driver, a Chula Vista resident, was detained by San Diego police officers who witnessed the crash and later arrested after failing a field sobriety test.
