STOCKTON, CA – A maroon Chevrolet Suburban overturned multiple times early Monday, killing its driver and prompting a closure of the southbound Interstate 5 transition to eastbound State Route 4 in Stockton. The California Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred around 12:05 a.m. on January 28, 2025.
A tow truck driver spotted a dust cloud from the crash and stopped to help, but the Suburban’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle flipped approximately seven times before landing in the number one lane. Emergency crews, including the Stockton Fire Department, responded swiftly.
Authorities closed the transition ramp, diverting traffic to southbound I-5 as they investigated and cleared the wreckage. The driver’s identity remains undisclosed pending family notification. A flatbed tow truck removed the overturned Suburban, and the coroner was called to the scene.
The cause of the fatal crash in Stockton is under investigation, with officials yet to determine if speed, impairment, or other factors played a role. Witnesses with information are urged to contact the CHP.
