MONTEREY, CA (November 11, 2024) – The California Highway Patrol reports that one person has died following a hit-and-run collision on Highway 1 in Monterey on Sunday morning.
According to the CHP, the accident occurred around 9:48 a.m. on the northbound side of the highway, just past Aguajito Road. A silver Nissan crashed into a black Honda, causing the Honda to lose control, veer off the road, and collide with a tree.
Tragically, the driver of the Honda, identified as 19-year-old Maddie Elizabeth Fletcher from Shelby, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan vehicle fled the scene following the collision.
