LOS ANGELES, CA (November 17, 2024) – A small plane crashed near the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip during the NHRA Drag Racing finals on Sunday, injuring four people on board.
The single-engine Piper PA-32, attempting to land at nearby Brackett Field Airport, came down around 11:40 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Pomona Police.
The crash, which halted the drag racing competition, damaged multiple parked vehicles, including a camper, but missed the grandstands and the track, sparing spectators from injury. Firefighters contained fuel leaking from the wreckage as emergency crews rushed the pilot and three passengers to the hospital. Two individuals are in critical condition, while the other two sustained moderate injuries, officials said.
The NHRA paused the event until 1 p.m. while working with local authorities. “The NHRA has been working closely with the Pomona Police Department and LA County Fire Department,” the organization said in a statement.
The cause of the Pomona plane crash remains under investigation.
