SANTA ROSA, CA (November 19, 2024) – The Santa Rosa Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a U.S. Postal Service worker Monday evening.
The victim, identified as 33-year-old Irvin Hernandez of Santa Rosa, was struck by a GMC Denali SUV while standing outside his postal vehicle near the intersection of Northpoint Parkway and Corrigan Street around 5:05 p.m.
Police said the SUV, driven erratically before the crash, veered into the postal vehicle, hitting Hernandez as he sorted mail. Witness statements and surveillance footage suggest the SUV driver experienced a medical emergency that led to the collision. The SUV came to rest in a nearby front yard, while the postal vehicle remained in the roadway. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SUV driver was conscious and treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. Authorities closed the roadway for several hours to investigate the Santa Rosa mail worker accident, working with postal service representatives to gather evidence.
