SALINAS, CA (November 21, 2024) – Three people, including two juveniles, were injured Tuesday evening after a semitrailer collided with a car on Highway 101 just south of Salinas, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred around 5:32 p.m. when the semitrailer, traveling southbound, turned left onto Somavia Road and was struck by a northbound Ford that became wedged under the trailer.
The Ford’s driver, a 17-year-old girl from Chualar, suffered major injuries and is in stable condition. A 14-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries, while a 4-year-old girl in a child seat was airlifted to a Bay Area hospital with minor injuries.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools to free the driver, while Good Samaritans rescued the toddler. The front passenger was able to exit the vehicle on his own. The semitrailer’s driver was not injured.Authorities are investigating the Salinas semitrailer crash, with no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.
