SAN DIEGO, CA (October 31, 2024) – Two passengers sustained serious injuries early Wednesday when a Kia Optima crashed into a light pole in a Kearny Mesa neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department reported. The crash occurred at approximately 3:19 a.m. in the 8000 block of Daggert Street.
Authorities stated that a 21-year-old male driver was speeding eastbound on Daggert Street when he failed to notice the end of the roadway, resulting in a collision with a light pole. The impact left two passengers injured—one with a fractured jaw and another with severe internal injuries.
Notably, the second passenger was seated in the back without a seatbelt, which police say contributed to the severity of their injuries. Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for medical care. The driver did not report any injuries. The SDPD traffic units are actively investigating the Kearny Mesa crash.
