FONTANA, CA (July 1, 2024) – Two people suffered major injuries in a four-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 in Fontana on June 24, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Fontana vehicle collision happened at 3:19 p.m. and involved a big rig, SUV, pickup truck, and sedan. The pickup truck stalled in one of the lanes on the westbound I-10, west of Cherry Avenue. When the sedan slowed down behind the pickup, the driver of the big rig couldn’t stop in time and rear-ended the sedan.
The pickup overturned, and its fuel line broke, causing a fire on the freeway. Jasmine Torres, a 44-year-old Fontana resident who was just driving by, told RTM Law that she saw the cars on fire and immediately pulled over. She ran to save a woman trapped in one of the burning vehicles, resulting in injuries of her own. She is currently receiving treatment.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived and extinguished the flames. The two injured individuals were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
