PASADENA, CA – A wrong-way driver on the westbound 134 Freeway in Pasadena caused a multi-vehicle collision Sunday, leaving two people dead and three in the hospital, authorities said.
The incident happened around 8:10 a.m. near North San Rafael Avenue after a car entered the freeway via the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp and drove eastbound in the westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At least four vehicles were involved in the Ventura freeway vehicle accident, including a white sedan and a silver minivan, with one catching fire. Authorities identified one of those killed as 31-year-old William Yost. Paramedics transported the three survivors to a nearby trauma center.
Traffic congestion stretched into neighboring streets, including the Colorado Street Bridge, prompting a SigAlert that closed the westbound freeway at Orange Grove Boulevard for four to eight hours.
