(August 31, 2024) — NHL player Johnny Gaudreau, 31, of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and his younger brother, Matthew, 29, were tragically killed Thursday night in a cycling accident in Salem County, New Jersey.
The brothers were reportedly struck by a car while riding their bikes. The driver, Sean M. The Gaudreaus were in New Jersey for their sister’s wedding, scheduled for the following day.
Johnny Gaudreau, known as “Johnny Hockey,” was a beloved NHL player with an impressive career, including multiple All-Star selections and a Hobey Baker Award. His death marks another tragedy for the Blue Jackets organization, which also lost goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks in 2021.
