One Dead, Several Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA, CA (August 31, 2024) — A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 12 in southwest Santa Rosa on Thursday resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The crash occurred around 11:50 a.m. when a dump truck hauling dirt failed to stop and crashed into a line of 10 vehicles waiting at a red light at Fulton Road, causing a chain reaction.
The impact killed Patt LaFortune, a former longtime teacher at Cardinal Newman High School, and sent eight others to the hospital with mild to moderate injuries. One of the vehicles caught fire, and several others sustained significant damage. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, including whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
