Pedestrian Accident on I-5 in San Diego Claims Man’s Life [San Diego, CA]

SAN DIEGO, CA (February 25, 2024) — A tragic incident on Interstate 5 in San Diego resulted in the death of a pedestrian late Friday night. 

 

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred when a man, reportedly walking in the lanes of northbound I-5 near Old Town Avenue, was hit by a vehicle around 11:45 p.m.

 

The vehicle involved, identified as a white Subaru Soltera, was driven by a 51-year-old San Diego resident. Despite immediate response from first-responders, the pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

 

Following the incident, all northbound lanes of I-5 in the vicinity were temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation by authorities. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed as the investigation continues.

 

CHP is awaiting a toxicology report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office to ascertain whether impairment was a contributing factor. Investigators are appealing to witnesses of the collision to come forward with any relevant information by contacting the CHP San Diego Area office.
