Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck on Highway 178 [Bakersfield, CA]

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 7, 2024) — A 61-year-old man was killed Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on westbound Highway 178, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred around 9:04 p.m. when the man attempted to run across the lanes of westbound Highway 178. A Nissan, traveling at approximately 70 mph, struck the man in the number one lane. The driver of the Nissan was unable to avoid the collision.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity at a later date.
