Pedestrian Killed in San Jacinto Hit-and-Run; Suspect Arrested
SAN JACINTO, CA (July 29, 2024) — Authorities arrested a suspect shortly after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in San Jacinto on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred around 5:10 p.m. near State Street, south of Esplanade Avenue. Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a pedestrian crash and found the victim severely injured on the roadside. Despite efforts to save the victim, Hemet Fire Department paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
San Jacinto Traffic Reconstruction Team detectives identified the vehicle involved as a white 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. The car was located in Moreno Valley and the driver, Darell Davis, 33, was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The vehicle, which had significant damage, was impounded for evidence.
Detectives stated that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the San Jacinto hit-and-run, which remains under investigation.
