Person Dies in Boyle Heights House Fire

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 24, 2024) — A person died in a house fire early Wednesday in L.A.’s Boyle Heights neighborhood, the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed.
The fire was reported at 1:18 a.m. at a home located at 121 North Mathews Street. Firefighters arrived to find a boarded-up, one-story single-family home with heavy smoke showing, according to LAFD officials. Crews quickly accessed the building and deployed hose lines inside.
A total of 34 firefighters took 24 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze. After the fire was out, crews searched the interior and found one person deceased. The victim’s identity has not been released, and the L.A. County Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death. Arson specialists are reportedly looking into the cause of the Boyle Heights house fire.
