Police Chase Ends in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Westlake, Suspects Hospitalized

WESTLAKE, CA (May 4, 2024) — A police follow involving a suspected stolen silver Toyota Prius escalated into a multi-vehicle crash in Los Angeles’ Westlake neighborhood on Friday afternoon.
The incident, which unfolded at the intersection of 6th and Coronado streets just before 12:40 p.m., resulted in the hospitalization of two individuals.
LAPD officials reported that the pursuit began after officers received an alert for a vehicle reported stolen. “Officers followed it, initiated a pursuit when the suspect vehicle took off, and it was involved in a traffic collision,” explained LAPD Sgt. Peter Kim. The chase lasted approximately one minute before culminating in the crash.
The Prius collided with a black BMW and a Kia, whose drivers were involved in the accident but did not suffer major injuries. Both suspects in the stolen vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital and are listed in stable condition.
Following the multi-vehicle crash in Westlake, the intersection was closed for about five hours to allow for an investigation and cleanup. This incident highlights the dangers associated with vehicle pursuits in populated areas.
