Santana Row Sideshow Injures Onlooker and Police Officer [San Jose, CA]

SAN JOSE, CA (June 17, 2024) — San Jose police are searching for individuals involved in a dangerous illegal sideshow near Santana Row on Saturday evening, which left one onlooker and a police officer injured.
Video widely circulated on social media shows masked individuals jumping on and hitting a San Jose police patrol car during the chaotic event.
The incident took place just before 7 p.m. outside the Santana Row shopping center. An onlooker was hit by a vehicle involved in the sideshow, and a reserve officer responding to help was hindered by the crowd. The officer’s patrol car was severely damaged, and he sustained minor injuries.
Legal analyst Steven Clark reportedly emphasized the seriousness of the charges facing those involved, including felony vandalism and felony assault on a police officer. Acting San Jose police Chief Paul Joseph vowed to work with the District Attorney to ensure the suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The Santana Row sideshow occurred at the intersection of Olin Avenue and Winchester Boulevard during peak dinner hours, alarming nearby workers and visitors. “I just saw a lot of smoke and people drifting their cars,” Cooper Murdock, who works nearby, was quoted as saying.
San Jose police urge anyone with video or information about the sideshow to contact them.
