Semi-Truck Crash in Placer County Leaves One Dead

PLACER COUNTY, CA (August 5, 2024) — A semi-truck driver died after crashing and catching fire in Placer County on Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the truck crash in Placer was reported around 5:08 a.m. along westbound Interstate 80 near the Drum Forebay Road exit. The semi-truck had veered off the road and collided with a tree, igniting a fire in the cab. The flames engulfed the truck and spread to nearby vegetation. No other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were reported.
Westbound lanes of I-80 were temporarily closed for investigation but have since reopened. Officials advised drivers to exercise caution due to expected showers in the Sierra. The identity of the deceased driver has not been released.
