SoCal Man Allegedly Killed by Deputies During Probation Check
RIVERSIDE, CA (May 14, 2024) — Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly shot and killed a man Monday morning during a probation compliance check in Perris.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. in the 3300 block of Albillo Loop, as deputies from the Riverside Alternative Sentencing Program were conducting the check, according to a sheriff’s department news release.
Authorities said several adults were present in the backyard of the residence. One individual provided false identification and attempted to walk away, ignoring commands to stop. Deputies deployed a taser, but it failed to subdue the suspect, who then pulled out a handgun, prompting deputies to open fire.
The man, who was struck by gunfire, received medical aid from deputies until paramedics arrived. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The involved deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave. The names of the suspect and the deputy in the Riverside shooting have not been released. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the shooting.
