Southern California Nurse Paralyzed After Tragic Accident

MISSION VIEJO, CA (June 14, 2024) — Deanne Niedziela, a seasoned nurse director at Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, has concluded her more than 30-year healthcare career in a heartbreaking manner.
While visiting waterfalls in Costa Rica, a tree limb fell and severely injured her, crushing her spinal cord and resulting in paralysis from the chest down.
After surviving a nine-hour emergency surgery, Niedziela returned home, facing a future dramatically different from the one she had envisioned. She now spends her recovery in the very hospital where she dedicated her life to helping others.
Reflecting on her situation, Niedziela said, “This is a tragic accident that happened to me, but it’s outside of my control. I can’t turn back the calendar.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up for her.
