Stockton Family Grieves Loss of 11-Year-Old in Crash Involving Underage Driver

STOCKTON, CA (August 27, 2024) — A Stockton family is grieving the loss of 11-year-old Queen Marie Norwood, affectionately known as Queenie, who was killed when a car driven by children under the legal driving age crashed into a tree on North El Dorado Street early Sunday morning.
The tragic accident occurred around 7:45 a.m., involving six children between the ages of 11 and 15 who had taken the car for a drive. None of them were old enough to drive legally.
Police are investigating the incident, which has raised questions about potential charges against the parents of the children involved. If the parents allowed or negligently gave the children access to the vehicle, they could face charges of gross negligence and child endangerment, carrying a possible prison sentence of up to three years. The surviving children in this Stockton crash might also face legal consequences for their actions.
The Stockton community, including McKinley Elementary where Queenie was a student, is deeply affected by the tragedy. Counseling and support services have been made available to students and staff.
