Suspected DUI Crash in Brentwood Leaves Two Seriously Injured [Brentwood, CA]

BRENTWOOD, CA (May 2, 2024) — Two men sustained serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash involving an alleged drunk driver in Brentwood on Tuesday night. Brentwood Police responded to reports of the collision at 9:26 p.m. at the intersection of westbound Balfour Road and McViking Way.

26-year-old Zachary Rau of Antioch, who was reportedly speeding in a Chevrolet Silverado on westbound Balfour Road, allegedly initiated the collision when he struck a Toyota RAV-4 driven by a 31-year-old Brentwood man. The impact forced the Toyota into a Honda HR-V, driven by another Brentwood man, aged 37.

The Toyota driver, found unconscious and unresponsive, suffered major injuries and required extrication from his vehicle. He was airlifted to a hospital where he remains in an unstable condition. 

A 26-year-old passenger in Rau’s vehicle also sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital but is expected to survive. The driver of the Honda HR-V was not injured in the crash.

After receiving treatment for minor injuries, Rau was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
