Teen Arrested After Striking CHP Car During High-Speed Pursuit Across Counties
CALIFORNIA (May 5, 2024) — An 18-year-old from Ventura County, identified as Felicity Michaela Hughes, was arrested after leading California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers on a high-speed pursuit that spanned multiple counties and ended in a collision with a CHP vehicle.
The teen driving accident happened just before 9 p.m. on Saturday when CHP was alerted about a pursuit entering Ventura from Santa Barbara County. Officers prepared to intercept Hughes’s 2012 Infiniti G37 sedan on the southbound 101 Freeway at Telephone Road. However, Hughes exited the freeway at Johnson Drive, leading officers towards Auto Mall Drive and into a dead-end lot.
According to CHP, “As officers attempted to terminate the pursuit, the suspect vehicle made a U-turn and accelerated, striking one of the patrol vehicles.” This collision resulted in significant front-end damage to the patrol car and minor injuries to one officer, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital.
Hughes was apprehended at the scene without further incident and taken into custody. She faces charges of evading police with willful disregard and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies. She is currently held at Todd Road Jail in Santa Paula on a $50,000 bail, with her first court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
