Teenager Killed in DUI-Related Crash in Valley Center
VALLEY CENTER, CA (April 22, 2024) — A tragic accident in Valley Center resulted in the death of a 19-year-old man and the arrest of another on DUI charges Friday night. The crash occurred just before 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Valley Center Road and West Tribal Road.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the victim, a 19-year-old Hispanic male from Valley Center, was driving a white Toyota Camry eastbound on West Tribal Road. At the same time, Fernando Porras Abrego, a 34-year-old from Ranchita, was driving a white Ford Expedition southbound on Valley Center Road. The vehicles collided at the intersection, leading to fatal consequences for the young driver.
Paramedics declared the 19-year-old deceased at the scene. Abrego did not sustain injuries in the crash and was subsequently arrested. He is currently held at the Vista Detention Facility, facing multiple charges including driving under the influence.
The CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Valley Center DUI crash.
