Tehachapi Motorcyclists Perish After Kern River Canyon Crash
KERN COUNTY, CA (May 13, 2024) — A tragic accident in Kern River Canyon resulted in the deaths of two motorcyclists from Tehachapi on Sunday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred on Highway 178 just west of mile post marker 24.
The driver, a 77-year-old man, and his 75-year-old female passenger were traveling westbound on a Harley Davidson. Authorities stated that the driver made an unsafe turn, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle, which then veered off the road and descended a steep 50-foot embankment, overturning in the process.
Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle and suffered major injuries, leading to their deaths at the scene.
