Tragic Cliffside Plunge in Malibu Claims Driver’s Life [Malibu, CA]

MALIBU, CA (April 4, 2024) — A devastating incident occurred on Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Canyon Road around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, where a vehicle met with a tragic fate, crashing off a cliffside and plummeting approximately 150 feet below into a dense brush area, landing on its side. 

The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that the crash resulted in the death of the driver.

Emergency response teams, including fire and rescue crews, were dispatched to the scene, embarking on a challenging descent into the wooded area to reach the wrecked vehicle and the driver. Despite the prompt response, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

William Mbema, a witness to the harrowing event, recounted his immediate rush to assist, describing a scene of chaos and tragedy obscured by heavy foliage. Mbema’s recount highlights the perilous nature of canyon road driving, urging for caution and advocating for increased safety measures in such areas.

The cause of the Malibu cliffside accident remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to release the identity of the driver. The crash has prompted the closure of both directions of Malibu Canyon Road, with officials indicating an indefinite shutdown period as investigations and cleanup efforts continue.
