Tragic Pool Accident Claims Life of Young Girl in Houston Hotel

(March 28, 2024) — The family of 8-year-old Aliyah Jaico is seeking justice after a heart-wrenching incident at a Houston hotel’s swimming pool led to their daughter’s death. 

According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the DoubleTree by Hilton Houston Brookhollow, Aliyah was tragically sucked into an unsecured pipe in the hotel’s lazy river pool. The details, provided by the family’s attorney, Richard Nava, reveal the devastating circumstances surrounding the event.

Aliyah’s disappearance led to frantic searches, during which the family’s request to view the hotel’s security footage was reportedly denied. 

The DoubleTree Hotel pool accident lawsuit further alleges negligence on the hotel’s part, accusing it of operating with numerous safety violations. The mechanism supposed to push water out of the pipe instead malfunctioned, creating a suction effect.

In a valiant attempt to prevent her sister from being drawn into the same peril, Aliyah unfortunately became trapped. Despite efforts, it was nearly 14 hours before the Houston Fire Department could retrieve her body, which was found contorted and 20 feet within the pipe, necessitating concrete to be broken for extraction.
