Two Dead in Bakersfield After Vehicle Strikes Patrol Car

BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 14, 2024) — In Bakersfield, California, a serious crash early Sunday morning left two people dead when their vehicle collided with a police patrol car. The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. at the intersection of Niles Street and Kern Street.
Authorities reported that a vehicle heading north on Kern Street at a high rate of speed failed to stop at a designated stop sign, striking the patrol car traveling west on Niles Street. The impact was severe enough to eject the driver of the northbound vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger and a 2-year-old child were also in the vehicle; the passenger later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, while the child remains in critical condition.
