Two Men Killed in High-Speed San Luis Obispo Car Crash [San Luis Obispo, CA]
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (May 24, 2024) — Police have identified the two men killed in a high-speed car crash in a San Luis Obispo neighborhood on Wednesday evening.
Jose Peralta, 49, of San Luis Obispo, was driving southbound on Beach Street around 9:30 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Pismo Street. The speeding vehicle overturned multiple times, ejecting Peralta and his passenger, 52-year-old Donald Avery Jr. of Paso Robles. Neither were wearing seat belts, police said.
Both men were seriously injured and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. A third passenger in the speeding vehicle, who was wearing a seat belt, survived with minor injuries. The woman driving the second car was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in the San Luis Obispo car crash. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the SLO Police Department at 805-781-7312.
