Woman Charged with 16 Felonies After Chaotic West LA Police Chase [Los Angeles, CA]
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 23, 2024) — Lisa Ann Heflin, 41, faces 16 felony charges, including 10 counts of assault upon a peace officer, after leading police on a dangerous high-speed pursuit through West Los Angeles, crashing into five police vehicles, the District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday. Heflin pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The incident began early Friday, May 17, when Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call in Venice. Upon their arrival, Heflin allegedly got into her van and drove off, hitting a police vehicle.
The ensuing 30-minute chase took police through Venice, Santa Monica, and West Los Angeles before Heflin entered the northbound 405 freeway. During the chase, she appeared to intentionally target LAPD vehicles, driving erratically and in the wrong direction.
Police attempts to stop her using PIT maneuvers were unsuccessful. The pursuit ended when Heflin drove into oncoming traffic, collided with three vehicles, climbed onto her van’s roof, and jumped onto the hood of a semi-truck, asking the driver for help. Five officers were injured during the pursuit, with two hospitalized and later released.
