Woman Killed in Willowbrook Crash Involving Alleged Drunk Driver [Willowbrook, CA]

WILLOWBROOK, CA (July 7, 2024) — A fatal crash involving an alleged drunk driver occurred early Saturday morning in the Willowbrook area, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to others.
The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Investigators reported that Kimberly Dunne, a 32-year-old Los Angeles resident, was driving a 2012 Toyota southbound on Central Avenue. At the same time, 22-year-old Brenda Mejia was a passenger in a 2012 Infiniti heading northbound on the same road.
The Willowbrook crash occurred when the Infiniti made a left turn onto westbound El Segundo Boulevard, and the Toyota continued southbound through the intersection, resulting in a broadside crash. Mejia was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another passenger in the Infiniti, 20-year-old Sharlyn Vaca, was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
Dunne was arrested at the scene for suspected DUI and was also hospitalized for moderate injuries. Two juvenile passengers in the Toyota were transported to local hospitals with moderate and major injuries.
The driver of the reportedly Infiniti fled the scene and has only been described as a male. Initially, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, but CHP later took over the investigation with deputies assisting in crowd control.
