Wrong-Way Collision on I-580 Tracy Claims Two Lives, Injures Infant
TRACY, CA (April 2, 2024) — A head-on collision on Interstate 580 in Tracy, California early Saturday resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left an infant with major injuries.
Authorities reported that an 18-year-old man from Antioch was driving a Honda Accord eastbound in the westbound lanes when he collided with a westbound Kia Telluride. The crash, occurring just west of Corral Hollow Road at approximately 2:04 a.m., led to both vehicles overturning.
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his vehicle. A 32-year-old woman driving the Kia succumbed to her injuries at San Joaquin General Hospital. The Kia also carried three passengers; a 35-year-old woman and a 2-month-old infant were seriously injured, while a 4-year-old suffered minor injuries.
Traffic on I-580 westbound was diverted for an extensive investigation. The cause of the Tracy collision, including potential impairment from drugs or alcohol, remains under investigation. Witnesses are urged to contact the Tracy CHP office.
