Wrong-Way Driver Causes Multiple Crashes on Riverside Freeway, 3 Injured

RIVERSIDE, CA (April 29, 2024) — A wrong-way driver caused a series of accidents on the 215 freeway in Riverside early Sunday morning, injuring three people.
The incidents began just after 2 a.m. when California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of a driver traveling in the opposite direction of traffic.
The driver initially collided with two vehicles on the transition road from the 60 freeway to southbound 215. Despite this, the driver continued onto the 60 freeway, where he hit another three cars before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot. CHP officers later apprehended the suspect on nearby Day Street.
Three victims were involved in the Riverside Freeway wrong-way crash, with at least one requiring extrication from their vehicle by rescue crews. Two of the individuals sustained major injuries, though none were life-threatening. The driver was arrested and faces charges of felony DUI and wrong-way driving.
