Wrong-Way Driver Hits Multiple Cars on the 101 Freeway
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 31, 2024) — A wrong-way driver suspected of driving under the influence was arrested Tuesday after colliding with more than a dozen cars on the 101 Freeway and causing a crash on surface streets in Hollywood, authorities reported.
The 101 freeway crash began around 4:16 p.m. when Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a suspect driving a white pickup truck erratically on Hollywood Boulevard and Bronson Avenue. The suspect had already struck numerous vehicles while traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway.
Police quickly approached with guns drawn, ordering the suspect to exit the vehicle. The suspect pushed aside airbags and stumbled out, eventually being arrested. A small fire ignited under the truck was extinguished by an officer.
The suspect caused a pile-up on the freeway and continued driving the wrong way before reaching Hollywood. Two victims, John Londono and Alejandro Corredor, were among those affected by the suspect’s reckless driving. Londono’s car was hit on the freeway, and Corredor’s vehicle was struck when the suspect ran a red light on Hollywood Boulevard.
The suspect, who appeared to have minor injuries, was taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. The suspect’s charges are pending, and police are conducting a field sobriety test to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
