Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Collision with Big Rig on US 101 in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA (May 25, 2024) — A San Jose man was killed after crashing his car into a big rig while driving the wrong way on US 101 on Friday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred around 11:15 a.m. just north of Blossom Hill Road. CHP reported that a Honda sedan was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, directly toward the big rig. Despite the truck driver’s attempt to swerve, the vehicles collided head-on.
The San Jose big rig crash caused the Honda to spin out and stop in the center median, ejecting and killing its 22-year-old driver. His identity has not been released. The big rig sustained significant damage, and approximately 100 gallons of fuel spilled onto the roadway, leading to multiple lanes being blocked for several hours.
The San Jose Fire Department and Caltrans responded to clean up the fuel spill. Authorities are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
