Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Crash on I-15 Near Summit Avenue

VICTORVILLE, CA (August 13, 2024) — A fatal crash involving a wrong-way driver on the northbound I-15 freeway near Summit Avenue is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident occurred on August 12, 2024, around 1:40 pm.
According to initial reports, a tan Chevy SUV was driving southbound in the northbound lanes at high speed, using the right shoulder of the road. The SUV eventually left the freeway at the Summit Avenue on-ramp, where it collided with a semi-truck. There are indications that the semi-truck might have been stationary when the impact occurred.
Unconfirmed reports on the fatal crash near Summit Avenue suggest that law enforcement was following the SUV before the crash. After the collision, several Fontana Police Department vehicles arrived on the scene, assisting in closing down the on-ramp. The SUV was found to be stolen, and the driver, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
