13 Pit Bulls Euthanized, Puppies Included, After Dogs Attack and Kill Owner in Compton
COMPTON, CA (February 21, 2024) — A somber decision was made to euthanize 13 pit bulls, including eight puppies, following a deadly altercation in a Compton backyard that resulted in the death of 35-year-old Dominic Cooper.
The dog attack in Compton, which took place in the 900 block of North Thorson Avenue, was reported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department early Friday morning.
Cooper, identified as the victim, was believed to be involved in the breeding and selling of pit bulls. A friend clarified that the fatal event occurred as Cooper attempted to break up a fight between two of the dogs, leading to a critical injury.
Los Angeles County Animal Control intervened, removing the dogs from the property due to the immediate threat they posed and their association with the attack. The euthanization of the animals has sparked discussions on responsible pet ownership and the safety of community members and animals alike.
