A 4-year-old girl was killed in a suspected DUI crash involving an off-road vehicle in Tulare County on Saturday night.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Avenue 72 in the rural community of Terra Bella. Responding officers found three individuals ejected from a 2015 Polaris RZR XP4, including the young child, lying on the roadway.
All three victims were transported to a nearby hospital. The child was later pronounced dead, officials confirmed. The conditions of the other two passengers have not been released.
California Highway Patrol officers arrested the driver, identified as 42-year-old Ramon Castaneda III, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities say he was operating the off-road vehicle when it crashed in a solo-vehicle incident.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials examine the circumstances leading up to the fatal incident.
