A police officer was violently attacked while towing a vehicle with an expired registration in the 1900 block of Santa Rosa Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened at around 4 p.m. Local authorities said that the officer had been working with the vehicle owner for a couple of months over a car with an expired registration of six years.
Reportedly an uninvolved man, 68-year-old Michael Prater, suddenly came up aggressively during the towing process and started yelling profanities to stop his vehicle from being towed.
Prater would then allegedly proceed to strike the officer and punch the latter several times. The officer sustained minor injuries while Prater was later booked into the Sonoma County jail for battery and for threatening a peace officer.
